- Tori Jones Studio is proud to present an exclusive collection of framed giclée prints by the late photographer, Klaus Gemming. Shot on 35-millimeter film in 1970 and 1971, these black and white images beautifully capture the universal joys of summer and the unique character of pristine Block Island.

- Gemming (1928-2004) was a German immigrant who began his career in book design. Shortly after his arrival in Manhattan in 1956, he met his wife Elizabeth, a native New Yorker and Wellesley graduate, with whom he had two daughters. Beginning in the late 1960’s, the family began vacationing on Block Island, then a relatively remote destination, located approximately 9 miles from the coast of mainland Rhode Island. The Gemmings were enchanted with the island’s unspoiled landscape– its pristine beaches, Victorian architecture, and storied lighthouses– as well as its simple pleasures: lemonade stands, beach walks, and bike rides. Inspired by the locale’s natural beauty, Klaus found an outlet for a burgeoning career in photography, capturing the spirit of these summers on black and white film. In 1972, Chatham Press published Block Island Summer, featuring photographs by Klaus and text by Elizabeth. Though now out of print, the book remains a cult favorite, beloved by generations of summer visitors, islanders, and all who appreciate the splendor of the season. Our collection features some of the most iconic images from the title in a giclée print series.
