Born in Brussels and raised in the US, John Urbain worked as an artist, illustrator and designer for his entire adult life. A graduate of the short-lived but hugely impactful Black Mountain College, Urbain studied with Josef Albers whose unique color theory and emphasis on materials greatly influenced his career. Though small, this original collage carries all of Urbain's hallmarks: dynamic color, tactile interest and textural play. The piece is matted and housed in a 19th-century lemon gold frame.
