- Dimensions: 4" x 6" postcards, set of 13

- We've created an exclusive set of postcards featuring all thirteen images from our Block Island Summer photography collection. Shot on 35-millimeter film by the late Klaus Gemming in 1970 and 1971, these black and white images beautifully capture the universal joys of summer and the unique character of pristine Block Island.

The set incorporates the iconic typography and graphics from the beloved and now out-of-print book that Gemming published with his wife Elizabeth, Block Island Summer. Our collection includes the most iconic images from the title.

- An ideal summer souvenir, it's also the perfect gift for all who love this "sandy little place" and the simple joys of summertime. Each card is titled and printed on luxe paper.

- Gemming (1928-2004) was a German immigrant who began his career in book design. Shortly after his arrival in Manhattan in 1956, he met his wife Elizabeth, a native New Yorker and Wellesley graduate, with whom he had two daughters. Beginning in the late 1960’s, the family began vacationing on Block Island, then a relatively remote destination, located approximately 9 miles from the coast of mainland Rhode Island. The Gemmings were enchanted with the island’s unspoiled landscape– its pristine beaches, Victorian architecture, and storied lighthouses– as well as its simple pleasures: lemonade stands, beach walks, and bike rides. Inspired by the locale’s natural beauty, Klaus found an outlet for a burgeoning career in photography, capturing the spirit of these summers on black and white film. In 1972, Chatham Press published Block Island Summer, featuring photographs by Klaus and text by Elizabeth. Though now out of print, the book remains a cult favorite, coveted by generations of summer visitors, islanders, and all who appreciate the splendor of the season. Together with the Gemming estate, our studio is proud to offer an exclusive, framed giclée print series of the book's most special images.

- All images copyright Klaus Gemming, exclusively represented by Tori Jones Studio.
