From there, he witnessed the arrival of spring, and recorded the blossoming of the surrounding landscape on his iPad, a method of drawing he has been using for over a decade.

Sometimes the boat observed was a big white ferry which lumbers brightly back and forth through all kinds of seas. Using these industrial man-made notions, like green buoys, or ferries, or barges, and balancing them into these seascapes and landscapes became one picture-making challenge. The other was to create pictures out of the flotsam and jetsam that builds up in the creative compost of one’s studio– old palette papers, canvases, watercolors, blottings, printings, sandpaper, whatever surprised me, and give them new life, in reassembled collages.”
