Originally designed for an Italian golf club in 1959, the Carimate chair quickly became a familiar sight in cafes and restaurants throughout Europe. Its vivid red lines and rush seat are the work of Milanese architect and product designer Vico Magistretti. Manufactured by furniture powerhouse Cassina, its radically simple yet sophisticated form launched Magistretti into the pantheon of midcentury design. We imagine this chair with a lacquered Parsons table or a rustic farmhouse piece.
